I started walking The Thames Path national trail in May 2007 (photos here), but due to an Unfortunate Incident (involving a tart’s calling card lying in the street, me stepping on it, slipping over and cracking a bone in my foot, then rain, rain, floods, more rain, foot and mouth, oh look it’s raining again), I had to put my plans on hold.
Curses.
Anyway, I managed to go a whole year without breaking anything (cor), and so my new camera and I went for a walk. Three walks, actually, totalling 40 miles. My thighs would like it duly noted that they hate me.

Taking over 1,300 photos in three days is silly, even for me. My 450D is a bit different to my G7 – there were many, many photos where it didn’t focus where I expected it to, but every day’s a learning experience…

It’s good for the figure, all that walking
(Not, I hasten to add, that you had anything whatsoever to worry about on that score, but still…)
You’re not alone with focus woes – the vari-point focus mode on my d300 stitches me up frequently, especially as the adjustment button/dial is just under where I place my thumb for comfort…
1,300 shots in 3 days? Now do you see what I mean about needing a BIG hard disk?

Walked 40 miles in three days and haven’t lost so much as an ounce. I am, quite frankly, livid.
I’ve got a bit to go before I fill up my external hard drive – 236GB, apparently.

My 300D does that, too. I find that I have more success if I place the cross points over the item I want focused than if I just ignore them when composing the shot. Also, your aperture will make a difference (apologies if that’s patronising).
